Plans for the 2012 "497th Fighter Interceptor Squadron Reunion" are in progress. St. Louis, MO was elected by the members at the San Antonio Reunion. Dates are undetermined at this time as it is still early. My plans are to work with hotels offering complimentary shuttle service. The expense of Taxis and City Shuttles have become a real expense. The official invitation will be sent out in February as usual. Hopefully a variety of photos (as well as a few newly located members)from San Antonio will soon be posted on our website; www.497th-fis.com
"Members" please feel free to offer any suggestions/thoughts. If you are interested in being a part of the evening programs please let your talents be known |

"Newt" Newton-
Thanks to all the new 497th FIS members who have happened upon our website. We welcome each of you. Please contact us at the above email to learn more about our journey of locating members. This mission began in 2007 and has been an awesome journey. We will hold our fourth annual reunion in San Antonio the end of this month. Please let us hear from you so we can get you on our members list. |

I was stationed at Torrejon AFB with 497th FIS May 1961 through June 1963. I worked in the engine shop under MSGT Donald F. Gregory. My roommate was Airman Ernie Combs, who was killed on the flight line by a jettisoned drop tank while pulling chalks. Our line chief was CMSGT Ernie Humble. Some of the people in the engine shop at that time were Edward Haddix, Charles A. "Louie" Hall, Sgt. Provo, TSG Currin, Woody Decatia, Don Poling, Bob Monahan, Sgt. Ted Folkers, Dutch Schieler, A1C Cass, David Wong.

Edward Haddix - Just found this site by luck. I was sitting in front of the computer after playing some games and just for the heck of it typed 497TH FIS into the search bar. I did not expect to see all this info pop up on the monitor. What a suprise!!!
I was stationed at Torrejon from June 1961 to June 1964. I worked in the Jet Engine Shop. Went to Spain single came back married. 47 wonderful years now. Torrejon was the best duty one could ask for.
To Jim Halliwell; Jim Stainbrook was sooo correct. Your father was a wonderful Commander and it was a pleasure to serve under him. Is anyone out there who was there at the same time? I remember a crew chief by the name of Jim Niday. I think his plane was a t33. |
