Nice site! Keep up the great work!
See everyone in Helena Arkansas Oct 9-11 2008 for the 23rd annual King Biscuit Blues Festival which now due to legalities has to be known as the Arkansas Blues and Heritage Festival, but it will always be The Biscuit to us old-timers. It’s the best blues festival in the Southeast US and it’s free.
A very special blues festival & a great vibe...among young and old, rich and poor, black, white, yellow and blue. The Helena Fire Dept runs a campground that’s usually about $30 for the weekend. Hotels within 60 miles usually sold out a year in advance. bluesandheritage.net should be the new web site but hasn’t posted this year’s artist lineup yet (as of 8/9/08). Locals are friendly and welcoming.
The levee overlooking the Mississippi River provides the venue...the great live blues, 12 hrs a day, the bbq smoke, the enthusiastic fans, and great acts which often include-
Anson Funderburgh and the Rockets
Pinetop Perkins
Bob Margolin
Levon Helm is from Marvel AR and for many yrs was the headliner
Robt Jr Lockwood was a regular until his passing in 2006
Other former headliners-
Dr John
Marcia Ball
Irma Thomas
Buddy Guy
Little Milton
John Hammond
Tab Benoit
Lil Ed and the Blues Imperials
Fabulous Thunderbirds
and many others...
If you remember the old "King Biscuit Flower Hour", a syndicated rock concert series on the radio for decades...well..it got it’s name from the King Biscuit Flour Hour on KFFA 1360 AM in Helena, which is still on the air, and is the longest running blues radio show in America.
This festival is what the blues are all about...

I’m the lead singer and harp player in a little Atlanta classic-blues-southern rock bar band called "Forty Days Revelation". I brought my harps and harp mic with me on a business trip in Dallas. I was out here 2 years and had a blast at The Hole in the Wall with BB Campbell and the Hambones.
Can you add us to the "Georgia" bands list? Awesome site BTW and hope to play out some blues open mic this week before heading back to ATL.
Thanks and take care,
Greg

Awesome site! Glad to see the blues being promoted in the Metroplex. With such a rich heritage here in Texas, it seems that it is difficult to find places to hear ’em in DFW. Well, not any more!
I know there has to be a lot of awesome talent out there, right here in the Heart of Texas. Cheers! |
