On our arrival Tuesday 21st April Monica slapped the brakes on near the Centre & Tony nearly went through the windscreen, he was lucky the airbag on the dashboard did not go off when his head hit it - I think it might have improved his looks if it had gone off! He did try hard when he had to scramble out of the car, move all the coats etc. to get to his camera, I kept telling him to hurry up (I won’t say what he said) - all for the sake of a photo of the Green Woodpecker! For once it stayed posing long enough even after all this commotion.
The rest of the day went well with all 3 Woodpeckers seen at reasonably close proximity- photos have been uploaded to the Gallery. We witnessed the L S Woodpeckers mating, managed record shots only this time (too high up in the trees for anything better). There were also loads of Wrens around singing loudly plus Whitethroats.
See you all again soon

On Tuesday 10th March Monica managed to photograph the Grebes displaying on EMP, Tony missed it again - his lens I think is just a fashion accessary! However he did try with the other shots we have posted - a Redshank & Snipe in front of EM Hide & the Marsh Harrier flying over, all on Sunday 29th March. (The Harrier is edited & grainy but a reasonable record shot). Also on the same day a Treecreeper & Redpoll.
What do you think about the flying swan photo? We believe a very rare sighting of a 2 headed swan - Again Tony has done well here, thinking he has got a rarity - he’s trying - in more ways than one! However a little better with the Treecreeper.
Finally on Tuesday 31st March the swans were showing their lovely heart shape as they displayed - slightly late for Valentine’s Day though! We both managed to record it this time. This one is Monica’s. |

Had another great day on Sunday. Your maintenance on the Sand Martin Structure looks very good, hope the birds appreciate it when they return.
Also thanks to the team for their past work on the channel next to the E M Hide, it is nice to have occasional views of the elusive Bittern. We have added a photo of the Bittern to the gallery taken on Sunday 1st March from E M Hide by Monica- one for the Girls! It always seems to be men who put their photos on.
Although Tony had his big lens with all the knobs and buttons on it he still missed a good shot. I have always told him size does not matter it’s the person behind it that counts! (Something like that was mentioned on honeymoon I think).
PS. Just off up to the library to get him ’Digital Photography for beginners’

| Great Blog Keith, very informative for the friends etc. of Brandon. It was very nice meeting you on Tuesday. We saw the Bittern fly across EMP 3 times to and from the reedbed, mind you we sat there all day in view of the flooded path to the other hides. Shame the light was too poor for any photos of it. |
