Hello
I stumbled across your site while researching Tanglin Barracks where I spent my National Service at the Command Pay Office (1955-58). To my delight I found a picture of Taffy (Christmas Day Party 1959) and believe the girl next to her is Peggy (can’t remember her surname). Both worked alongside me in Officers Accounts, entirely different characters (Peggy reserved, refined; I liked her a lot) and Taffy a refreshing extrovert (Welsh like myself). Both were tremendous girls and valued presences in that all male world. Lovely to be reminded of them again, All best wishes, John

Hi

Message for Barbara Hodges. I understand you married one of the lads from Taranaki. I’m sure you might know Ollie Gerrard as she also married one of the lads of the same ship. Mind you we knew the lads from the ship when they were out in Singapore round about 1966. You can always e-mail me on

Hello to 18 SIGS members and TANGLINERS who attended ’EXERCISE EVERGREEN ’ in ’67 ’68 & ’69. If you want to see the island of Pulau Besar where the exercise was held GOOGLE on - 360 degree cool-island traveler - and you will find several blogs spots, the first of the list will take you into this guys blog on his visit to the island. Its interesting as he shows current pictures (and its still beautiful and unspoiled ) and he also goes into the history of 18 Sigs on exercise there with a few photos of the encampment. Do any of the 18 Sigs guys out there know if the MOD had a reciprocal agreement to build something on the island in return for using it? I think that was usually the case in these situations. Plus I seem to remember a new jetty was the deal then. Come on you guys get the memory cells working - Bob Cunnion/Bob O’Brien are two names on this site that were there surely. I have a stack of photos of the exercise and will post them on site soon.
It was actually quite an innovative thing for us girls to be allowed to attend and it was a wonderful experience, thanks to Sgt Chris Davidson and Sgt Wise ( where are they now I wonder)? They were the poor devils who were put in charge of us ’ sproggie jungle-bashers ’. I’m sure they enjoyed every minute of it too. Great fun!!

Was just given this site by Irene Mclean. I served in Singapore Feb 63 to Aug 64. Worked as a clerk in Fort Canning Singapore District, then we moved to the new premises at Singapore Area.Am looking for Anna Mckenna, who worked in the camp office and was stationed at Kingston on Thames with me before we flew to Singapore. Also Olga Bagwell, Rita Sidlow. These two I have seen in photos on one of the girls weddings. Also Rita Carver, I cannot remember her maiden name. She married a Geordie Carver and she also worked at SBA. I had a double wedding in July 64 with Rosemary Read also a clerk. We married two sailors off the new Zealand ship HMNZS Taranaki and came to New Zealand to live.

Hi

Still looking for Pat Kelsey. When I left 4 Coy I was then stationed at Bovington Camp where Pat Kelsey also was. After Bovington Pat went to 4 Coy. Would have been round about 1967/1968. We are trying to trace her for a reunion to be held later in the year for the ones whom were stationed at Bovington Camp from 1966 to 1969. Keep up the good work Gerry it is a wonderful site
