Another movie theater was located near the intersection of Columbia Avenue and Field Street. It was on the East side of Columbia just south of Field Street. (I believe it was the second building from the intersection.) My mother who is now 93 used to go there with my aunt when they were kids growing up on 167th Street nearby. Mom doesn’t recall the name of the theater but recalls going there. I never went there myself but I remember it being there as we traveled Columbia Ave quite a bit. Does anybody remember the name of this theater? For the life of me I can’t remember its name.

What great memories you have brought back. Yes, I played pool in the Indiana Hotel Basement and I believe it was called Perrins. My wife and I are Hammond High and Tech graduates from 1944 and 1945.

Richard;

Thank you for this website, and thank you for posting my essay about Downtown Hammond here.

How I wish we could all walk those downtown sidewalks and visit those stores again.

Tom

I grew up in Hammond in the 60’s, the memories are great, so many things that I remember being in Hammond before they were destroyed, very sad, Hammond was a beautiful town to visit & to be raised in.
