Sherry,
Many thanks to you for all the work you have done on this website. It is due to the efforts of you and kindred spirits like you who use their time and talents to make infomation available to all that genealogy is the fastest growing hobby in the USA.
Thanks also are due to Bill Porter, Elva Bishop, Bulah Dean, William E. Lawson, Ann Murphy, Golda Porter and others acknowledged by Bill, for their willingness to work together and freely share their work making possible the publishing of the book, William Lawson, A Scottish Rebel and Other Pioneer Families of Southern Appalachia. The resouces mentioned in this book have been invaluable in leading us all to the resources for the research now being done. Bill Porter and this book have also been the keys to connecting hundreds of "cousins" now researching the Lawson and related families.
Thanks also are due to all the people who read the first version of William Lawson, A Scottish Rebel, and sent family group sheets, documents, photos and family stories to Bill. Their contributions led to the publication of the 2nd and 3rd reprints of the book.
A big Thank You is due Patti Lawson for all the time and work she has been doing collecting and presenting all known family menbers on her family tree online at the free Rootsweb.com site. I can’t begin to imagine all the thousands of hours she has devoted to corresponding with and helping all of us. Her database was the first place I saw Lawson family information back in 2003 but I have no idea how long before that she had been helping others.
Was M.B. Wood, grandson of Sally (Lawson)Wood, the first to publish any Lawson family history? His beautifully written book, A Brief Account of the Wood Family in Virginia, written
"for the amusement of himself and relatives" and published in 1893, gives such a personal insight. Chapter 2 can be accessed from Sally Lawson’s page on this website.
There is a great map that Glenn Conrad has done showing the area where the Rebel’s land was on Sugar Run. I’m hoping that you will soon be permitted to show this. Glenn has a real talent for homing in with maps as demonstrated by his map and article on finding the landing area of the Gildart.
Thanks also to June Leto for sharing her transcriptions of the land records she is finding.
Julie
