To the ladies, young ladies and all other females who are inspired to join Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated... This is a PSA just for you..

The love and pride that you all have for Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated is extremely awesome.. I’m sure the women of Alpha Kappa Alpha are impressed by this.

You all show dedication and pride for this sorority, even though you’re not "yet" a member..

But you all need to know this one thing that I must say..

DISCRETION is the key!

Lemme tell you the definition of Discretion.. Discretion comes from the word "discreet" and it means to have the capability of preserving prudent silence.

Now with that definition that I states above, many of you have not been discreet.

What I’ve read on here is very VERY ridiculous and sad.. Yes I said it.. SAD because I’m reading thousands of responses from you all who are nothing but some high school teenagers who want to be AKAs and you all are bold to procclaim your love for the sorority but even a few of you even say that because you are a member of a certain group sponsored by the women of Alpha Kappa Alpha in a certain chapter that it automatically gives you an open door to join the sorority and that is not so.

And what’s even more sad is that this forum is indeed public.. Meaning that anyone can find it and with you all actually claiming Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated as if it was your OWN sorority is a gateway for many of you all’s feelings to get hurt in the future by the current women of the sorority.
You all clearly don’t know the vision of the sorority, the vision of the founders who founded this sorority or anything behind the colors and the motto. If many of you all knew how much of an offense it is to the women of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated to see you all posting up their infamous greeting and talking about putting your "pinkies" up as if you have the right is just down right disgusting to these women!!!

You all have NOT worked, sweated or bleed to be granted membership to this sorority, and you all actually think that you all have the right to call yourselves "sorors" and such.

I’m not here to persecute you but if you take it that way, make this a reality check.

My point is that you are not going to get membership into Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated or any sorority just because you have love for it.. It takes more than that!

Many of you don’t realize that it takes very hard work to become a member of that organization. I bet you all just believe that anyone who loves the sorority will get in.. I know for a fact that it is only 25% true.

Lemme school you all on some things..

First of all.. I’m a current college student (in my junior year at a HBCU-- Historical Black College and University) and I too want to join a BGLO (Black Greek Letter Organization) and I have experienced seeing and hearing so much about people, mainly young women like you who wants to join a BGLO.

First thing is to keep quiet.. Literally, HUSH about wanting to be a member of a sorority. That’s why I said discretion is the KEY. I have seen almost close to a thousand young women who’s feelings have been hurt intensively all because they go about wearing the sorority’s colors and literally kissing the ass of the sorority member and I’ve even seen some walk up to the sorority members and call them "sorors" and say stuff like "Hey, my mother is an AKA and I’m going to be an AKA too" or "Hey, I was an Ivyette and I’m going to be your future soror".. And everytime it never fails, they attend rush and the get dissed VERY badly. That’s why I say, this forum is public and you all are really building the road to where your feelings will get hurt badly in the future. Do yourself a favor and keep quiet. If you love Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, cool, keep it to yourself because you will PROBABLY get membership that way.. If anything the worse that can happen, besides getting socially humilated, is getting barred from membership. Be discreet. Be quiet. Discretion is the KEY.

The second major thing is to have good grades. All 4 of the BGLO’s sororities (including Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated) requirements include having good grade.. A MINIMUM of an overall grade point average of 2.5, which is a C+. To ALL of the organizations, this is by far the most important factor in gaining admission to the organization. If you don’t apply yourself in school, you will not considered for membership. That’s just the national requirement.. Many BGLO chapters have grade point average requirements that are at a 3.0.. My advice to you all is to keep a 3.0 grade point average to be safe. Better to be safe than sorry. If you can’t keep a cumulative grade point average of at least a 2.5, then joining a sorority or amy BGLO is not for you.

The third thing is active community service. All of the BGLOs missions when they were first established is to serve the community. You MUST perform community service. All of the BGLOs still perform community service, even after they have been initiated into the BGLO. So performing community service is just a beginning to a lifelong service. So news for those who just do it just to get initiated into a sorority or any BGLO, please DON’T because if you do that, you will not do well in the sorority or any BGLO for that matter. Many of you just log onto Youtube and look at all the stepshows and just think that Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated or any BGLO is all about stepping, showing off their line jackets and stepping at Greek parties and Greek shows.. PSA;; NO IT’S NOT.. That’s just a SHOW.. The real mission behind the sorority or any BGLO is the community service.. Giving back to the community. The mission behind these BGLOs is to ultimately make a difference in the world. Try actually reading the history of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated or any BGLOs and stop going to Youtube for your sources.

These are just the MINIMUM requirements.. And to be totally HONEST with you all.. You may have the minimum requirements BUT you still MAY NOT get in that organization.

Now many of you have a puzzled and confused look on your faces..

But it’s the truth. You not only have to have great grades and community service, but you have to impress the members of the BGLO.

Many of you are asking how.. Well.. That’s actually what I like to call "Common Sense".. And since this is an AKA issue for you all, we will relate to it to where you can better understand.

1. Don’t kiss ass.. If you see a member of AKA, do not talk about their sorority and how much you love it.. Again, your feelings will get hurt and you will more than likely get dissed. I’ve seen this happen many times.
2. If you are interested in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, try attending their events.. As a matter of fact, attend all of their events. Your mission is to impress these women, to give them a reason why they should consider you into their sorority.
3. When you attend their events, again, so not talk about their sorority! If anything, talk about anything else but the sorority, don’t even mention if you gotton any community service. Don’t talk about the colors pink and green, don’t talk about anything that may relate to their sorority. Make conversation about something other than Alpha Kappa Alpha.
4. Be nice. Contrary to popular belief and people’s stereotypes, no one likes a mean, stuck-up or saddity person. You all heard the stereotypes about AKAs being stuck-up, saddity, stuck on their looks all that other foolishness.. DON’T believe the hype. Acting stuck-up and acting like you’re saddity will NOT get you attention from members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. If anything, that will make no one want to associate or socialize with you and when approaching a member of AKA, they will literally turn away from you. I’ve also seen this happen so many times. No one refuse to associate themselves with people like that so you shouldn’t be like that either.
5. Refrain from wearing the colors of the sorority TOGETHER. If you like the color pink, where pink. If you like the color green, wear green. But DON’T wear both. At some HBCUs (like mines), the AKAs takes this very seriously. Many rarely wear pink or green. At some universities it’s so bad that many rarely wear pearls. Just to be safe, rather than sorry, refrain from wearing too much pink and tom wearing to much green.

Hopefully, you’ve learned and even took notes from what I’ve mentioned above. Now many of you love Alpha Kappa Alpha so much, start your research.. Use Google as your new best friend.. And also go to the national site..

Disclaimer; Once again, I’m NOT a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated or any BGLO, and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated or any BGLO is not responsible for what I’ve said in this forum.. It’s simply common sense.

Although I’m not a member of any BGLO, when one seen and heard many things, they can advise and that’s exactly what this was. If any of you have any more questions and comments, feel free to email me.. It’s .

It been a while since I visited any undergraduate websites. Yours was indeed informative. It appears that you are a visible chapter in the community. Stay there, and keep looking gorgeous!
