And yet another shirt-tail cousin speaks! Your g-g-grandfather (James A Godwin) is my great grand uncle, being the brother of my great-grandmother, Elizabeth J Godwin (she married Isaac Newton Smith. Their son Albert L Smith is my grandfather (never met the man, actually). His 3rd son, Roger, is my dad. Question is, have you any info on supposed "Indian" (Native American) blood in the family? Would love to hear from you in any case.

My GG grandmother Mary Ann Woolsey Scott married John William Benton in 1865. They had two children Elizabeth and Zelda.
(Mary was married to Alexander Dudley Scott until he was hanged during the "Great Hanging in Gainesville",Cooke county, Texas )

| Found this site on a random Google search and the Benton album has pictures of my grandfather, William (Bill) Benton. Very interesting as this is family and history I did not know. FYI Bill had three children that all recently retired around the Guthrie area, Ron, Don, and Kathy. His wife Stella is still living and recently celebrated her 91st birthday. If you are ever this way Benton’s Service Center & Speed Lubes has been service Guthrie, OK since the late 40’s and is still going strong. Thanks for your site, Sincerely, your cousin, Lance Benton |
