I was born in Waurika in June of 1954 but only lived there about two months. I grew up in SE New Mexico and west Texas (Odessa), but I’ve lived near Houston since the late 1970s. My father and all his people were from Oklahoma (he was born in Clemscot and they lived at Fox until moving to Winkler County Texas in 1940). I’m intensely proud of my Oklahoma roots; I feel like part of me is rooted there still!

I’ll be making a "birthday road trip" back to Waurika for my first visit, ever.

I was wondering if anyone can tell me about my Cunningham/Miller family.
My great-great grandfather was John G. Cunningham (1833-1918)His daughter, my great grandmother was Rebecah Cunningham (1868-1899) She married George Miller in 1887 in Nickel Hill.
some time after the marriage they moved to Lehigh OK. I understand that Nickel Hill was where the town of Braum now stands.
John has 2 daughters buried some where near NIckel Hill. They were Louella Cunningham Barnes and Ida Cunningham Brown.
I would appreciate any help.
Thank you.

Full of good exciting information. Sure is fun visiting here.Very soon I will have a book out about the Russett area during the early 1950’s. I think it will boost tourism in the area, the title will be "Adventures of Cottontop and Earnest. Simple story about two youngsters growing up on the Washita River.

Butch, I also attended Washington Elementary School, two years behind you. I still remember all the teachers; Mr. Stamper, Mr. Biles, Ms. Thompson, Ms. Zumwalt, et. al. Thanks for the memories. I’m still scratching my head to see if I knew who you were back in those days. Anyway, I do rember those report cards. Instead of Ms. Roberts for the first grade, I had Ms. Whitmore.
Wow! it’s been a long time! -Eugene Herrod

wondering ,in the case of the four men hanged in Ada in 1909,the photo has a hat on the ground, near one of the hanged men, in the foreground, in the center of the famous picture. This hat, as a possible symbol, is readable as a Mason’s symbol for the recent death of one of it’s members. The white pony also stands prominent in an abandoned livery stable?, and for all appearances of coincidence, could as well be a symbolic voice of the deceased? Like the battle at OK corral,Tulsa Race Riots,...etc much harm and destruction of innocent lives continues, as justice has not been truthfully carried out.
