700. Bob Pounds - 2009-11-11 11:35:09
My father Robert J. Pounds served in the CBI theatre flying cargo over the Hump. While his memories are fading with the years, I still remember the stories and I salute all of the young men who risked all in the name of freedom for all people.

First..Thank you to all CBI Veterans for your service to our country. We owe so much for your contributions to our WWII victory. I’m looking to see if anyone may have some memories, stories, photos or any information about my Father William(Bill)J. Phelps. my Dad served as a Tiger in the CBI theater in 1944-45 and was a bombardier. He pasted away in 1970. Any information would be appreciated.
Thanks, Larry H. Phelps

My dad was a veteran of WW 2 serving in the Pacific. In 1960 he began a public speaking career that spanned 45 years. His subject was Americanism and Patriotism for which he received many awards from veteran’s and civic group,s alike. In 1994 at the 47th annual reunion of CBI veterans assn. he was awarded the groups highest award for Americanism. He was very proud to have been honored by this group and he spoke often of this honor up until his death in 2006.

I too would like to thank all of the men and women that served in the "forgotten theater" and to the people that keep their memory alive. My father (Robert William Chafey) served in the CBI theater while attached to the 699th Petroleum Distribution unit and on occasion would share stories of those times. He passed away 4 years ago in his home town of Linton Indiana and still proudly displayed his CBI decal and license plate on his pickup. He left behind quite a few pictures from Burma, which I plan on organizing this year. If anyone knows of a good site to post these pictures after they are scanned, please let me know at .

I would like to say thanks to all those who served in the CBI theater with my father. Dad lost his battle with cancer last year, but went down fighting as one would expect from those of the greatest generation. SSGT Donald L. Boyd served in the CBI theater, and life, with honor. Thanks
