Great Website. My father-in-law Alfred Weber was attached to the 14th AAF as a MP early in 1945. Unfortunately I never asked him many questions about his service, nor did he volunteer any information either. After he passed we obtained his uniform (bullion CBI patch and all) plus some photos. So since then I have had an interest in the 14th and have read as much as I could plus collected several CBI Roundups. Fortunately I met a resident of the assisted living where my mother-in-law is by the name of Robert "Bob" Nice who was a B-25 pilot with the 14th 11th Bomb Squardron and stationed primarily at Kwelin (sp). I have had some discussions with him and hope to have many more. If any of you out there knew Bob Nice or knew of him please let me know. Also always looking for CBI items, CBI roundups.

What a great website this is! I have learned more about CBI in the last month or so from reading the posts and speaking with some great guys who served over there. My Dad , Master Sgt Ralph Milley served in the Assam 1942 -1945 3438th ordinance under Col. William Steiger. Anyone who would like to speak or crrespond with my father can call him at the Chelsea Soldiers Home @ 617-884- 5660 ext 8103 or at my email . He would greatly appreciate any contact. Thanks to all of you who have given us our freedom. Rick Milley

My mother passed away recently, and today I found a small tackle box behind my mother’s shoes on a closet floor. Among the items was a small copy of a New Testament, "A Sacred Token to Lt. Vick Winter" from my father’s mother, dated "the eighth day of October 1942". This was when Grandma learned that Vick was MIA.
I guess "Dauber" (Vick’s nickname) was one of the "Brazilians".
Returning from a mission in October 1942, his squadron spread out due to bad weather. All planes but Vick’s returned safely to base.
Capt. Vick Winter, mentioned in the May 20, 1943 issue of the CBI Roundup, was best friend ( Fort Stockton, Texas) of my father, Cecil Lang Casebier.. I’’ve several letters from Vick’s parents to my grandmother, a transcript of Vick’s commanding officer’s letter to Vick’s parents; and the letter my father wrote his mother on learning of Vick’s fate. Somewhere around here too, is an 8x10 portrait of Vick in uniform that my father kept on a wall in his studio, as far back as I can remember. Before my father passed in 1996, I promised him if "Dauber" was brought home in my lifetime, I would be there to stand in for him, and their friendship. I’m 60 now, so who knows; but my teenager says she’ll keep the faith.
Finding the little Bible prompted me to revisit the DOD’s WW2 MIA list again. I then googled "Capt. Vick Winter"; and found the C.B.I Roundup, and then this web site. Thank you.

| Iro msg from Karen Grubaugh regarding Don Becker, I believe my father, William (Bill) Beven trained with him at both Chico and Stockton (graduating Advanced Training in the class of 42J). My father was killed on a training flight following his return from CBI, so I have little information about the 14 or so months he served flying C-46s over the Hump. If you Dad is still living, please ask him if he remembers my father. I can be reached by email at . Thanks. |

Hi there, I have just recently found a photo of my dad and he is wearing the same uniform, he was based in agra, India in 1944. He met my mother and I was the result, I never met my father and am trying to track any relatives or siblings that I may have. His name was Robert William Helson from Iuka, Kansas. If anybody has any information could you please contact me. I live in the UK and came here when I was 3 years old, now 65, I think its time to find out who my family really are. Any information would be much appreciated.
