Your organization was always available for us when I was Director of the Gloucester County Police Acasdemy and now you have come through again to perform a personal favor. A young boy (19)from Laurel Springs died in a fire recently and a dozen or so relatives from Ireland came to the wake and funeral. They innquired about the services of a "piper" at the funeral which was to be the next day. I told them it was very late notice, but I would see what I could do. A couple of phone calls later, I talked with pipe major, Wade Houlihan who, after making several calls without success, called back and said he would do it himself. Boy! What dedication and consideration! He had only two hours to get to the cemetery, but he was there. The relatives from Ireland were impressed and thankful for the service and I extend yet another "Thank you!" to a fine group of gentlemen who perform a wonderful service. Fred Reeve, Chief, Washington Twsp. PD, Ret., Director, Glou. Co. Pol. Acad., Ret.

To the men and my friends that left responses to Mr. White’s statement supporting me,Thank You for standing by me.To Mr. White, it’s a shame you have no concept about honoring our fallen law enforcement officers and what events like May 15th mean to the survivors.I did not degrade the President, it’s the poor decision that was made by him and his staff not to attend that was judged.Furthermore, I take severe umbrage to people like you that take a cheap shot at someone you know nothing about.I had the honor to have one of the greatest jobs in the world by serving "with distinction" in the Camden NJPD for 27 years."With distinction" means having been decorated 23 times in my career and inducted into the Police & Fire Hall of Fame in Indiana. Since 1974 I have buried or have played at over 300 police & fire funerals. And that doesn’t include all of the 9/11 funerals and memorials that we played. How dare you question me, my actions and statements. You’ve never stood at a funeral and had the small child of dead cop look you in the eye trying to figure out why his Dad, his best friend,is lying in his casket.Say what you want about President Bush but after he gave his speech each year, he would leave the podium and stand next to the FOP wreath and welcome each family as they placed a flower in it. It drove the Secret Service nuts but he knew that he had a duty to pay respect to the families and their fallen officer.
Even though I retired 8 years ago I still make sure that any police officer, fireman or soldier who makes the Supreme Sacrifice is honored. Before you pass judgement on me do us all a favor. At least act like you have a pair. Take the test to see if can even get in the job no less do it. And if you are a law enforcement officer shame on you for supporting the ill thought decision not to have the President attend. Should you have any more drivel you wish to impart "do something else with it because nobody cares about your opinion".
