My name is Duncan Stoner,
I spoke with Ordnance Sgt. Custer, 1st Sgt. Alonzo, and Cpt. Kearney at the recent Battle at Townsend’s Plantation. I was interested in enlisting in the Confederate Army’s 2nd Florida Volunteers. I’d sure appreciate it if you gentlemen would perhaps help me with getting started in that direction. |

Gentlemen,
I just wanted to let you know how interesting I found your group. Two of my ancestors were in Co. I, 2nd FL Inf.; one (Hardy S. Dormany) lost a limb at Gettysburg; his brother, James, died shortly after from wounds sustained at Gettysburg. I am (one in a continuous line) named for James Dormany.
Hardy’s granddaughter lived to a ripe old age and was my living connection to Gettysburg, entrusting me with a few of her grandfather’s possessions, including his remarkably sophisticated, late 1800’s/early 1900’s, wooden prosthesic hand.
Perhaps one day I will be lucky enough to see one of your re-enactments. Keep up the good work!
Sincerely,
James M Dormany |

Is the picture on the front of your site reenactors? Or from the original Hammock Guards? My Great Great Grandfather George W. Carter served in the unit. If it is reenactors do you know of any pictures of the unit. Thank you very much for your time.

Paul, nice to hear from you and to learn of your interest. If you’re in the panhandle there’s a unit out of Tallahassee you may be able to link up with. Check the listings of units on Floridareenactorsonline and you should be able to find them if someone doesn’t direct you specifically first. The Battle of Natural Bridge is reenacted up there around March. See the website referenced for other listed events as well. Best to you!

I am a Virginian, a soldier in the 8th Virginia infantry Co. I. I would still like to fight but can’t always make it back to my unit as much as I’d like. I presently live in Pensacola, FL and I am looking for a unit that can utilize my bravery on the field of battle. Please send me information on your unit and what you need from me for membership.

Pvt. Rottman,
The pleasure was truly ours, sir. You Kentuckians are a tough bunch of soldiers! I believe more of our Floridians fell out on Sunday then the fine gentlemen from Kentucky. Thank you for joining us, pard.
Your servant,
Captain Kearney |

Capt. Clay
It was a honor to serve under your command at the most recent Battle of Manasses. I was off my game first time back in the field in 2 years and aback problems slowed me down. You and your men were true gentlemen and I really enjoyed my time with you.
Your most humble servant
