Sgt. French,
Your words are wise, comrade. Although a revolver was not used in the accident, they should still be inspected. Mine has never once been drawn from the holster at inspection. Perhaps our unit should the one to begin such a process.

This an amendment to my previous post. I was mistaken, the gentlemen was not struck by a pistol shot but one from a musket.
If you read the referenced news article it points out the probable break in safety from ’walk-in’ participants.
I know that some groups will not allow someone unknown to them to join on the fly at an event. Still, this event should cause us to consider more just how we guard against and safeguard ourselves. The Safety Inspections must be taken seriously.

Here’s is one Google mention of the said incident;

Bully for you Captain! Thank you for the forum.
I’d like to start out by asking how many of you heard or read about the fellow reenactor (Yankee) up in VA who was actually shot during a reenactment? If not, do a google or check our the floridareenactorsonline reference to this event. It’s the kind of reminder and wake-up call that we should always make note of.
Safety precautions and inspections should never be taken lightly. We must always pay particular attention to the safeguards we have in place to watch out for and prevent these kinds of accidents.
This incident is the second time that I’ve heard mention of what may be evidence that more consideration needs to be made with regard to the inspection of pistols. As I recall, during our regular weapons inspections, I have not witnessed any check being made of pistols. Does this latest incident indicate a need to re-examine our safety procedures?
