Return to Paddy Dutton
Good to hear from you again and looking forward to that beer in Halifax. Charlie Greengrass will probably be there as will Russ Connelly who lives there. Glad you are keeping winter up there in Edmonton so we can enjoy this rather mild one here in Kincardine. It’s really unbelievable for us here. Anyhow get on with your challenge and we are pulling for you. Must phone Tommy Vipond one of these days. Keep in touch

| Hi Guys it’s me back again. Good to hear you Paddy Dutton. Yes things have rolled along pretty fast. By the way my hand is 100% now and so I can still hoist a beer. Talk about the Six Mile some used to go there *before* most night dives! Yes we were on CDBA too. No wonder we had the odd situation! Boy you look at the training float now and there is some change. You could probably still lead the morning swim Paddy. Anyhow cheers everyone and seriously think about the next reunion in Halifax this September. God willing I shall be there. Reddog |

I feel it is time I clarify your Bayfield D comment. He was always pushing us as class to excell and the banter back & forth was encouraged. I respected all our officers. As an OD in the spring of 57 on my ship’s course the unit was a completely different way of life from what I was used to. I wanted to be part if it. That was reinforce while at sea. Did you know that after a few beers at the Six Mile our CD class did a volunteer night dive? We went swam past the fueling jetty to Seawared Defense and made our mark on the the James Bay. Did you know that while my wife Mary was back in Edmonton we had a beer bash at my house on Linden and Lt/ Cmdr. Ben Ackerman joined us for a couple and told us he expected great thing from the unit. Bayfield D pushed us and expected us to achieve no matter what. CPO Drew also. I remember on a drive to Pat Bay with a load of bottles and explosives ( we had signs front & back ) warning everyone Red was driving. A dog ran out in front of us on the way and Red didn’t hit the brakes thus saving the us and the surrounding community. Another life lesson for me thanks to my mentors at OCDU 2. My wife and her school friend Anne dying of cancer went on an Alaska cruise and stopped for a beer at the Red Dog Saloon in Juneau. They didn’t get a free one either Red. You were not the only one snubbed. Red I hope you medical problems are now an issue of the past and that you can hoist one or two even if you can’t type. All the best Paddy |

Hi Guys
Just finished "skyping" with Jim Balforth in Kelowna BC. He’s looking pretty good. Getting ready for winter here as I’m getting my right hand operated on so it won’t be operational for awhile. Otherwise Emma and I are doing fine here in Kincardine Ontario. Say hello to everyone! |

Super job there Tim.
Really enjoy dropping by the site every now and then. I chuckled at Red’s comment regarding Moe. He was so benevolent we all borrowed the money he had that day and gave it back to him the next day when we were sober so he could give it back to the bank. As I recall it was quite a sum of money.
Thumbs up all,
Milt |

Hi Guys
Just a quick word. I check this site out every so often. Unfortunately i’m not a computer guru but it sure provides some easy comunication capabilities. Anyhow it don’t seem that long ago since Patty Dutton suggested to Bayfield Davis that his parents were married and therefore he (Patty) wouldn’t be capable of being an officer. Needless to say things became pretty quiet all of a sudden. Right now Paul Henderson was in town with his 1972 hockey sweater. When that goal was scored we were on YMT-9 on a mini mine-ex just off Sidney BC. I think Rick Shaw had just had a CDBA regulator blow up in his hand. Great days. Things have gone a long way since. Maybe we should stop for a cooly at the Six Mile. Moriarity wants to buy the first round as he just short changed the bank (he Thought) Well I just gave my diving gear away to a old (62)ships diver from the east coast Dave Carson. Anyhow take care guys I’m living in Kincardine Ontario. Drop in any time. Red Larsen |

I was going thru some old navy stuff and found a red tougue worn with standard. 4 pips on one reverse and a straight crease on the other. Did one side represent a rookie and the other qualified?
I also have the results from all my cancer tests and as of last Wednesday the cancer is sleeping and other than a CEA test every 3 months for the next 3 years the Cross Cancer Center does n’t want to see me until Jan 2012. Good news for me and a ton of thanks to the doctors and staff at the Cross. |
