I’m delighted to have found your web site. I wonder if perhaps, you might know of someone who would be willing to
do genealogy research (for a fee) in the Johnston area.
I am located in Denver, CO and it is more than difficult to
explore the information from this distance. I am specifically interested in the McDonald families. Some of
the names from Johnston are; John McDonald/Freelove Bucklin,
Barack McDonald/Alice Sprague (daughter of Anthony Sprague
and Anne Thurston). John McDonald died at the Battle of
Louisburg, however, Freelove is said to have died in Johnston in about 1772. I have specific information for any
one that would be willing to take on this task....again...
love the site and wish you best of luck..Marcia Morton

..Hi Louis,...it has been a while since I have contacted you but after a recent visit to Johnston, I could not wait any longer..I wondered if you had any info regarding the Historical cemetery #14..after all these years, I got to see it for the first time..I was under the impression that it was difficult to get to but the gentleman across the street was kind enough to direct us and it was easy..the stones are toppled and mostly unreadable but I did take pictures..my grandfather Brown is buried there as well as other family members..do you have any info on the names of people buried there? Also, we would like to try to " clean up " the site when we are on trips to Johnston in the future..what permissions do we need ?..any ideas on how to upright the stones and secure them ?...by the way, I read your article re Walnut St....a little stroll down memory lane..thanks...I visited with my cousin Susie Brown..I am not completely sure that she connected with Mill (Newsham ) and myself or of exactly what she heard but it touched my heart to see her..I appreciate your eforts to preserve Johnston’s history and as I share all with my children and grandchildren I feel a little sadness that I have not done so many years sooner...it is not the same place I grew up but my history is still there...hoiping to hear from you..Meredith Clarke ( John and Lillian Brown’s daughter )

Love the new website. Nice to see that Louie McGowan (who may remember me from Rhode Island College) and Everett Cogswell (my uncle) are still at "The Cemetary Patrol." I was wondering if JHS plans on doing any historical projects, either themselves or in conjunction with the Fire Department, into the Fire Department’s history, especially into their days as independent volunteer companies.

Hi Nancy-Jo. We have no plans to implement any sort of automatic notification of new content at this time. Transcriptions of old JHS newsletters are the only additions that we’re sure we’ll be making in the near future, and they will appear as they are completed. Within the next few months we hope to have a page of information about projects the society is planning and how people can help with donations of time, creative energy, and money. Stay tuned! -- Christopher

Congratulations to all of you, great job! Is there an online newsletter or "ping" from the system when the pages are updated/new links added? If there is any resesarch or transcriptions that are currently being planned for the site, can someone post that? What about a project fund whereby people can donate to specific projects for your society? Sign me up. Thank you for bringing your society and records to the web.
Good luck..
Nancy-Jo

I was so happy to hear about this website through Beth Hurd online. Although I do not know Beth personally, I remember 6 or 7 years ago corresponding with her by email when I relocated down to Florida for a short while. She is a wonderful and giving person to all of us genealogy nuts with her untiring research. Having grown up in Johnston I would love to buy a copy of the first book about the Town that you have on your website. Kindly contact me about how I could purchase one. Loved your site and will keep it in my favorites and check back periodically as I hope to move back to Johnston in the new few months. Congratulations on a job well done!!! Debbie Sweeney

You have a very attractive and informative web site. I enjoyed reading the history of where my ancestors were born, grew up and died. But one left, went to MA and came to CA. Thanks for the hard work some people did to make a nice site.

The new website looks great. I’m sure it will be more up to date now that it is maintained by local folks instead of by me, 400 miles away!
Good luck. See you in May? if our plans to get to RI hold
