| First of all Congratulations. You set the bar high for the rest of us which is much appreciated. Starting June 6th, I will crossing the Canadian Border into the US to embark on the same journey that you accomplished. I am a 19 year old boy/man who goes to the University of San Diego. I am currently training for this feat in San Diego where there are a lot of hills and was wondering how hard it was to average those 100 mile days. I hear coming from North to South is fairly constant in downhill, but I wanted to hear it from your perspective. I am going on this trip alone so any other handy tips would be greatly appreciated. Congratulations again. Hopefully I can join your accomplishment soon. |

Hi Dan,
Thanks for your comment - ironically I had looked at your site a couple of weeks ago when I started planning my route! I think I’m going to be following a very similar path to yours on the way down. Should be a great journey. Any top tips for the route?

good info, sounds like some good rides. I’ll be biking the same route in september through october this fall, the vancouver to san diego route along the coast.
If you have any extra tips/hints/recommendations, please don’t hesitate to let me know.
Thanks

Hi Dan, good read, good site. Will be doing LEJOG in May, and was wondering if you had a Google Earth or similar route file you’d be able to email me. It would be much appreciated! eric dot jorrin at gmail dot com.
Cheers Eric |

Dan
My legs are aching just reading your LE2JOG trip. Thank you for taking the trouble to record it. Very entertaining and done so well if I may say.
I will be doing this trip in May, although I will take a leisurely 3 weeks and extend it to the Orkneys. I’ll be using a similar route that I found in Lonley Planet ’Cycling Britain’which uses minor roads whenever possible. Lots of useful advice in your diary. Thanks.
I’m sorry to read that you had bad experiences with Sustrans because I’m the liaison Ranger for NCR21 through Surrey. I hope our signs are adequate and the charityI am supporting is sustrans!
Thanks again

Thanks for your comments Garry.
When I did LEJOG I had a bontrager race lite saddle. They don’t make the model that I had anymore but I presume the updated version is similar. I now have a Selle Italia carbonio saddle which is very good (but a bit pricy). Saddles are a very personal thing so you just need to keep trying until you find one you like.
Hope your training goes well and you enjoy your ride.

Hi Ya,
Hi Dan,
I have read a number of diary’s of cycling lands end to John o Groats. And yours is the best one I have read. I am planning John o Groats to lands end this August. I like the look of your route too.
I am training not to hard at the moment, If you don’t mind me asking what type of saddle did you use, as I’m having a little problem with mine.
Take care and thanks for the good reading.
