McCalmont Cup Results
Karl Skelton ran an excellent race to win the 4 miles McCalmont Cup Club Handicap race on Saturday 15/11/2008. Karl took the lead on Lap 2 and finished the race over a minute clear of Drew Knox in Second place. Sam Crawford finished 3rd in the fastest time of 24.00 minutes.

Thanks to all those members who helped out at the McConnell Shield Cross Country Races on Saturday 08/11/2008.It was good to see so many Club Members on hand to help with Course Building and Race organisation. Special thanks to all those people who were there all day ensuring that the event was a complete success for all the athletes who participated.

COME ON EVERYONE IT IS THAT TIME AGAIN TO RUN IN THE COLD RAIN AND MUCK IT IS FUN SO GET YOUR SPIKES ON AND LETS GET NICE AND DIRTY.
Comber was the first xc of the season, three of our members ran with the wind and rain beating against them most of the way.Bertie and Jeanette ran in the 5k both finishing first in their age catagories. Sam Dunn ran in the 8k finishing 65th in the time of 39.37. |

EAST ANTRIM HARRIERS AC IN ACTION AT ARMAGH & ESSEX
ARMAGH 10 MILE ROAD RACE
Eight Members of East Antrim Harriers travelled to Armagh on Sunday 12th October 2008 to compete in a 10 mile road race,with warm and dry weather conditions all eight participants managed to get round the hilly course. First Harrier to finish was Sam Crawford who finished in 12th overall with an excellent time of 56.42 and second in the male veterans over 40 category, Stephen Gowdy was the next Harrier home in a time of 70.51. East Antrim ladies were well represented with Carol Annesley first home in a time of 77.07, followed by Christine Shield, Shirley Gowdy, Jeanette Burton who was first in her Category, Fran Wright & Marian Hayes.
This was the fourth and final race in a 10 Mile Grand Prix Series being promoted by Athletics N.I. the previous races being held in Limavady, Portaferry & Ballyclare. A special mention goes to three members of East Antrim Sam Crawford, Marian Hayes and Jeanette Burton in winning their respective categories in the Grand Prix Series.
Essex 10 Mile
And also on Sunday 12th October, Sylvia Clark of East Antrim Harriers travelled over to Essex to take part in the Tiptree 10 Mile Road Race, finishing in an impressive time of 79 minutes.

East Antrim Harriers in action at Bangor 10K Classic Road Race;
On Saturday 27th September 2008 seven members of East Antrim Harriers AC travelled to Bangor to compete in a 10K Road Race organised by North Down AC. On a warm sunny afternoon the course started near the leisure centre and went down Bangor’s Main street towards Ballyholme along to Groomsport and back along Ballyholme to the finish at Ward Park. First Harrier home was Iain Bailey finishing an excellent 13th overall in a race with over 600 athletes competing, next Harrier to finish was Drew Knox followed by Sam Dunn, Carl Skelton, Sylvia Clark, Carol Annesley and Robert Grimason.

Beggs Wins Parkgate Race
On Saturday Morning 20thSeptember East Antrim Harriers held their Annual Parkgate to Ballyclare Club Handicap race. The race was won by pre-race favourite Ken Beggs in a time of 34 mins and 5 secs. Ken is East Antrim Harriers prolific marathon competitor and the previous week-end had competed in his 49th marathon in Nottingham . Ken will travel to Washington, USA in November to compete in his 50th marathon. An impressive start to the race saw Beggs take the lead as the runners passed through Doagh Village. His marathon running strength ensured that he was not headed again as he completed the 2 miles run in from Doagh.
The fastest time for the 4.5 miles race was set by Ian Bailey who came home in 24 mins and 24 secs. This is the fastest time recorded by any athlete in the last 30 years and puts Ian into the list of top ten fastest finishers. The record being set by the late Jimmy Todd in the 1950’s.

Killyleagh 5 Mile Challenge
Four ladies from EAH travelled to Killyleagh on Friday 29th August 2008 to compete in their annual Road Race, which was well organised by Joe Quinn. First Home was Jenni, followed by Carol, Jean and Jeanette. Congratulations to Carol & Jean finishing first in their respective age catagories. Aferwards everyone enjoyed fish and chips,full marks were given to the chippy at Dundonald. |

Darragh Cross Co Down 10K road race.Two ladies from the club went to take part in this charity run for cancer,through the rain and over the hilly course Carol and Jeanette finished first in there age groups.Everyone enjoyed the crack and the refreshments afterwards. Once again thanks goes to Joe.
