Hi Phil, Good Night Irene was played every night before daddy closed the skating rink. Like you, I can still hear that song and everybody knew it was time to take off their skates and go home. When it was played, that was it, the doors would be closing. I have that 45 record. Well. Good Night Irene, well it’s time to go. Boom, boom, boom, Good Night Irene well it’s time to go, boom, boom, boom, I hate to leave you but I really must say, Good Night Irene, Good Night. I could sit up in our back yard and watch movies at the theater and could hear it after I went to bed. The beacon light for the airport turned around and around and the light came in my bedroom window. Oh those are good memories. Our kids just have no idea how to have fun.
I’m still trying to find a picture of the skating rink before the rooms were built on the back. We entered from the Airport Road end. I want to have a painting done of it if anyone has one. I’ll be glad to pay you for it or for a copy.

I remember Hanson’s very well, Nancy and I loved going there for slaw dogs. It was the place to go, cruise, and see who else was there.

Hi, I am Jane Albright Robinson and I was born in LaGrange. I remember Hansons vividly because of my 2 older brothers, Phil and Rob. I loved the 10 years I lived in LaGrange and am enjoying this website!

My mother was a waitress at Hanson’s when I was still in elementary school. We ate there many times and were very good friends with the Hanson’s. I dated Charles Smith when in high school. He was a nephew of J W Hanson. Hanson’s was definitely a spot where we "hung out". I also my met my husband out there on one of those nights. Dolly Ann Woodruff and Deloris (Lokey) Phillips was with me. Lokey lived and grew up on the same street as my husband. I met him through her. Many many memories were made at Hanson’s. Kids today do not have places like Hanson’s and do not know what they are missing.

Here it is Mid-May, and you aren’t writing about Hanson’s. Don’t you want to hear from friends. There were more than 4 or 5 cars at Hanson’s during the week. Bobby, this is an excellent web for everyone from LaGrange. Wish everyone would write in. We may be old, but not dead yet. Thanks to the ones who have written. COME ON LET US HEAR FROM YOU.

Joy and others - you don’t have to remember everything the first post - keep this going as I am enjoying all the comments. I have my order in for Dale’s Sauce on the next trip to the grocery store.
