a pleasant experience that had all we required. a great pool, close to Orchard road and all the greatest shopping centres and friendly staff. worth a stay as the price was very affordable. Rooms are larger than most hotel rooms I have had in singapore and i am happy about the free use of internet , kitchen and laundry self-service options.

We stayed here for a week when we visited looking for housing in advance of our move to live in Singapore. Room was good sized and clean. The apartment is not the newest, but was well maintained and well run. The room was in a nice and chic neo classical design which we liked, especially the Orchid flower arrangement. Also, the internal ambience is quiet but like all things, always ask if there’s any construction going on nearby.

The staff are also friendly and well trained. We had the morning breakfast at the Botanical Gardens which is just a 2min bus ride away and the bus stop was located right outside the building. My wife and I really liked the fact that the bus had great air-conditioning! There also is a convinient store within the building that did not charge exhorbitant tourist rates. We also used the little food shop to buy snacks, drinks and all the breakfast stuff. Food stalls, hawker markets, places down by the river, in the malls, in the hotels, etc. will leaving you spoiled for choice. You can go completely local and have an excellent meal for SGD $3. Of course there’s always the chilli or black peppered crabs which must be tried at least once. The local food stalls are fine to eat in and standards of hygiene and their enforcement in Singapore are very high.

Location is good on Grange Road which turns into Orchard Road. I loved the fact that this was near the ION, where we had most of our coffee breaks in the sunny afternoon. For shoppers, you are looking for Orchard Road, not Orchard Boulevard which runs alongside but separated by a block. Note that along Orchard, many of the buildings have underground malls and these also have tunnels under the roads to avoid traffic and weather. The closest MRT stop is Orchard, about a 15 minute walk. Cabs are easy and nNo need to tip either. On tipping, the government tries to discourage tipping. Some restaurants do add on 10% service charge and you will see it on your bill. Food stalls and hawker stands, no need. One tip for the ladies, while the outside temps may be high, the inside can be quite low. If you’re going to a restaurant/bar and eating inside, bring a light sweater or throwover with you.

Ground managers are a great help, letting us in on local tips and saved us quite alot of money. The staff at The Hotel Alternatives will either arrange or direct you for almost anything you might need. The house cleaning staff are superb, responsive and obliging. Checking in and out is quick as well.

Internet is free of charge and accessible within your room. No computers so do bring your laptop.

In short, this place is excellent value with good service.
