IT WAS ALL ABOUT MUSIC AND LOVE. WHY DOES IT HAVE TO END?
As I was preparing to write my review, I realized it would involve about the same amount of time to write a book. So rather than attempt it, read my friend Tom Frangiones review posted on Examiner.com. He covers a good deal of what went on this past weekend, allowing me to point out a few of my own highlights about the Fest. Read his review, and make sure you check out the Greg Hawkes video, AND, the Ronnie Spector video.
Let me start with Ronnie Spector. She was very light and her story’s about the boy’s were wonderful. This video does not do her Saturday performance justice. She was even better Sunday, looser and sexier than you can imagine of someone 65 years young. She looked right in my eyes and asked me to "Be Her Baby Now....oh oh oh oh oh;! Thanks to 2 very lovely friends of mine, I sat front row near center both evenings. Liverpool played so great with her. I have always thought Liverpool was a very good band, and with the addition of John(George) and Glen(Paul) a few years back, they keep getting better all the time. But I have never heard them sound as tight and be as loose on stage as they were this year. The sound of the Chris’s drums was awesome, and of course Drew was so on with his playing and singing. These guys play with more musicians than anybody, and do it better than anyone. I hope this version of Liverpool is around for a long time. Thanks guys for doing the music so well. One highlight for me was their version of "I WANT YOU". Glen was having so much fun he was dancing and spinning all over the place, and I don’t think I heard one mistake all weekend. This is one of the best "Beatle" bands around.Another highlight for me was Earl Slick’s Cold Turkey licks he put into Mark Hudson doing "WORKING CLASS HERO" I had chills! But let me tell you, John’s guitar work stands up with anyones. Greg Hawkes (from the Cars) and his Ukulele performances were fantastic, especially the "Concert For George" version of "SOMETHING". I spoke with Greg several times over the weekend, and he is the nicest guy. I asked him if he was in touch with Rick, he is, and did not rule out the possibility of the Cars doing something in the future. I got there early on Friday and was able to chat with Earl Slick. He told me this was his first fest and he was looking forward to it. I told him to be cool, enjoy the fans and you will be loved, and not to worry about anyone being too crazy. He said "geno, no one is crazier than me. We’re gonna party later right?". Never did though, although I did talk to him a couple more times over the weekend. That’s one of the things I love most about the Fest. Most of these guest are so approachable and gracious to talk to. Sid Bernstein, at 90, is the biggest trooper and one of the most loviest people I know. He won’t talk to me about anything until I tell him about my kids. Of course the fest would never be the same without Mark Hudson, who brought his brother Brett along this time. They both told me I could be the 3rd Hudson brother(I don’t think the 3rd brother is in touch these days). A pic showing my induction will be forthcoming soon. Bruce Spizer was telling me about his new trivia game coming out, and gave me 2 questions I did not know the answer to. I am now thinking of going to that Beatles class at Oxford. The battle of the bands is always fun, and my personal favorite was a young girl named Debbie Aponte. I told her she could have been in the movie "Across The Universe". I saw Victor Spinnetti early on Friday too. I told him I hung out with him at the bar....he interupts me and said "yes, 15 years ago. The bar was in a very open space and you sat with me and Walter(Shenson)". I have pics of that. He didn’t need pics. Great memory. And thank god he does. He told in detail such great and wonderful stories of his friendship with the Beatles, especially John and George. On Sunday on stage, he was exuding what the Beatles were all about...Music, Love and Peace. As he was finishing, he was so choked up with tears with the Love he was feeling from all the fans at the fest. I started to cry a little myself. I don’t know what it was exactly about this years fest, but I haven’t felt this much love flowing around in one place in 9-10 years. The music and the vibe from start to finish was sooooo great, and this was one of my favorite and most fun fest in years. The dance party with Liverpool on Friday was so much fun. I danced off 10 pounds over the weekend. The Bootlegs singalong till 4 in the morning Friday, and The Blue Meanies dance party Saturday night till 4 in the morning helped me shed another 5 pounds. I met so many ’newbies’ who were so in awe with everything and everyone. I met so many new friends who I feel I have known forever. And it so wonderful hanging with so many old friends. I spent half the weekend inside hugs. No one wanted it to end. My camera wasn’t working, and I know alot of different people were taking pics for me. Please forward to me when you can.I want to thank some very special friends who helped me overcome some difficultys being here this year(my 21st fest), Rob and Kaya, Janice and Corrine, and special love and thanks to Carol and Gary. With the way things are going on in life, we all really needed this weekend. Because of you guys, I was able to know how much love there still is in Beatleworld. Thanks Mark and Carol for providing all of this for us.Thank you Robert for all the hard work you do helping with this. Thank you Liverpool for being there year after year.I already can’t wait till next year.
Peace and Love,

| I have a huge announcement Drew Hill of Liverpool is a proud father (congrats, Drew!) And this year will mark the 40th anniversary of Abbey Road so this means Liverpool will be performing the album in its entirety during the fest this year in Chicago. JT, I’m also going to the Chicago fest this year will be my first fest in Chicago, since they announced there will be no fest in Las Vegas for two thousand and nine. I enjoyed myself really being in New Jersey for the Fest for Beatles Fans. |

I know I’ve come off sounding harsh...and I don’t want that to be the case. I recall the first year I saw Mark Hudson at Chicago...and it was totally off the hook. His stories alone are worth the price of admission. The times with Denny Laine and Joey Molland, Juber...and so many others in the 16 years I’ve gone have been a treasure to witness. I guess I am spoiled because I really enjoy Liverpool themselves, especially the current line-up. I would like for them to be able to dig deep in the Beatle/solo vaults and still play the favorites many want to hear each year...but time is always the enemy! |

| Once again the Boys kicked butt. If only they could find the switch to turn off Hudson. |

| Don’t misunderstand me!! I love the guests...love hearing them play and jam with Liverpool...but...a couple songs per guest used to be the way it was...and there was plenty of time for the Pool to play lots of killer material. It was a free-for-all from what I saw on Sunday...but I guess that’s cool as well. |
