I served with the 601st in Hq. Btry and "C" Btry in Kiska and in Europe. I noted names of my friends, Major Fowler, Major Nisbet, Koehler and recall many stories and reunions, until we got too old. Im 88 now, and still in touch with those that are still aound. This 601st site is one of the best! Thanks, Hq and "C" Btry guys!

I make and collect toy soldiers. I’ve become interested in the 75mm pack howitzer and the units that used it. Your site has provided excellent information. A later project may depict the 601st. Thanks for an excellent site.

My father, Wm Oliver Nisbet, served in the 601st from Ft Bragg (Pvt) until transfered (MAJ) to the 321st FA Group in France (I think). He died in 1993. Great site. I am retiring from the Army Reserve as a Chaplain and am putting together his papers. Is there a museum that the 601st alumni and descendents place their papers, photos, etc.?

Trying to determine my dad’s unit, etc. He told stories of landing on Kiska unopposed. His name is Ralph A Rizzuti - US Army

My father, Major Julian M Fowler, was in the 601st in WW2 as a part of the group that worked with the mule pack in providing artillery support in Northern Italy. Prior to that, he was a part of the Aleutian Campaign. Is there a way to find out more about the division and what they did during WW2?
Thanks,
Mike Fowler

I am from Colorado and was a member of the 601st Field Artillery "C" Battery. Enjoyed your web pages.

I also had a peek at Dachau Concentration Camp.

"C" Battery used to hold reunions, but not anymore.
We never could get more than about 25-30 to come
and now most have passed away or just are unable to
make the trips

Best Wishes

Great Web site! My dad was Glen Forbes, was in the 601st. I enjoyed the pictures of my dad at the reunions. Glen passed away in 1995. He never really talked much about the campaigns in Italy.. I am enjoying the details of this site. Thanks for all your hard work gathering all this information.

I was just searching on Camp Hale and found this fun site. I lived in Camp Hale in 1956-1957. I left some old 30 cal carbine blanks standing on a rock there in 1957 and in 1997 I went back and got them. They had been standing exactly where I left them and were still upright. All the snow, etc had not moved them. I used to catch trout in the main stream thru there with my bare hands in the winter. I missed the big beaver pond and all the yuppie motorcycles were a real downer and seemed downright disrespectful. Went to a one room school house there also. Much fun. My Dad and harry Orvis were involved with dismantling the mule barns and other parts of the base.
