My uncle Howard Olson was in the 601st field artillery
battalion mule pack Btry A. I believe his service # was
37125855. He trained at Camp Hale and was in three campaigns;
Aleutians, Rome-Arno and the Rhineland, so I was tracing his
travels in the service. Your web site realy helped.
THANK YOU

Thank you so much for this website. My father, 2nd Lt. Michael Shortley Jr, served in the 601st. This site provided my family with so much information. Dad is still with us, 90 this December! Thanks again. - Brian

Thank you so much for putting this sight together! My father, Charlie DeVries, was in the 601st. I remember several get-togethers when I was young with his "army buddies". My Dad had a very special bond with these guys and stayed in contact through reunions, etc. his entire life. He is now deceased and I am hoping through this website to learn more of his experience. Thanks again!

My uncle, Howard Olson was in this unit. He went 1st to the
Aleutians campaign, then with General Clark to Italy and the
Rhineland. I think they took Rome on June 5 the day before D-
Day. Like so many who returned he did not talk about it, all
I know is that he was in the unit with the mules that trans-
ported the artillery and supplies to the places where trucks
could not go. So I was just collecting information about his
Unit. Btry "A" 601st F.A.B.N.

We love this web site. Like ours, it offers a lot of information that veterans can use. Have you seen the new 2009 Presumptive List of service-connected conditions? If not, visit www.veteranprograms.com to learn what benefits veterans can get today.

Hi,
My father served in the 601st "C" Battery. His name was Horace "Pete" Buche. I see some of his comrades name’s on your guestbook and was hoping to get in contact with them so that I might get more information about where they traveled etc. as my father passed away when I was 14. Thanks so much for creating this site!

My father was 2nd Lt. Howard E. Pace, FA, of the 604th FA BN (Pack) who arrived at Camp Hale after OCS in Feb. 1943. He left for Europe in Nov. 1943 and was assigned out of the North Africa replacement Depot to a MP BN.

Would be interested in any info on the 604th during 1943.
