Just found your site - FASCINATING.

Why, oh why, can’t we have this sort of broadcast today. Solid musicians, beautiful programmes of music and a nice variety of orchestras etc to listen to and NO rap, hip hop or other so-called music to have to suffer.

More please

Joe

This site is the greatest little treasure of a find. Thank you so much for putting these wonderful musicians and tunes on line.

Great to see someone has kept recordings of these old radio programmes.

Listening to MWYW and the Palm Court orchestra takes me back to the good old days when there was no TV and we used to gather round the Murphy A70 on Sunday evenings to listen to Albert Sandler.

How about "Housewives Choice" signature tune, another programme which I remember well from my childhood.

Great stuff! So many memories...
Came across your site by pure serendipity and regrettably can’t put it down, listening to all these old tunes from MWYW. Currently working through Lou Preager after finishing Primo Scala. Never knew that about Primo - always thought he was a genuine Italian! Sounds a bit like those two who regularly appeared on Workers’ Playtime - Dorita y Pepe who I, after listening to them for years thinking they either came from Spain or South America, discovered they hailed from Burnley (or was it Blackburn?).
Thank you so very much - a real pleasure listening.

Glad you like it Steve, I shall certainly be adding programmes from time to time.

Congratulations Brian on a marvellous website! Although a shade too young to recall these programmes first time around, I thoroughly enjoyed the examples you have provided (which I played through an appropriately vintage bakelite Bush radio). I hope you might provide more from your collection in the future. They are an absolute delight and deserve to be heard again.

My father was the accordianist at the Coventry Street Corner House until the orchestra disbanded. I believe that he worked there for over 20 years. His name was Joe Bromberg.

Sorry, Penny. I’m afraid I don’t have any information on him.

Hello, don;t know if anyone can help me, i am trying to find anything about my grandfather Harry Ward who played the piano for the Coventry Hippodrome Orchestra in the early 1940’s and played for music while you work.
Do hope you can help
Thank you.

Hi,

Remembering well the early 1970s Radio 2 on 1500m LW, I found some old reel to reels at a boot sale, along with a working tape recorder...I copied all of the old radio music from the tapes and was hooked! Music while you work, LP showcase, Jack Jackson , Ray Moore ( a Giant of broadcasting), and lots of others. Many thanks for your excellent website--and lets hope that Radio 1 1/2 can go back to how it used to be--melodic Radio 2.......................Regards, Ian Johnson
