Beautiful home page and lots of good data. I am searching for information on the Smith Family, originally from Wadley. Thomas Waldo moved to Louisville where he farmed and raised his family. The family also owned and farmed land many years ago in the Wadley area, I believe the land holds a family cemetery, but I have not been able to find the data.

Your website looks great! I’m looking for information on Asa Holt Sheppard b. 11 Dec 1828 in GA. I cannot find him in 1850 US Census; however, he married Catherine Amelia Chesnut in Jefferson County, FL on 24 Nov 1850. In 1851 or 52, he signed a legal document as witness to relieve the guardian of his wife Catherine of any further duty, etc. His signature suggest an educated man, Catherine’s signature, suggest she just learned to write. The guardian is John Anderson, grandson of Uriah Anderson (Jefferson Co, GA?). In 1860 US Census, he is listed as A. H. Sheppard, overseerer, with wife and children. The birthplace listings of children suggests they moved to GA in 1855. On 1 July 1862, Asa and an Elan Sheppard enlist in the 62nd Georgia Partisan Calvary. This group was sent to the Army of Northern Virginia and served with the 17th VA Calvary. Asa was killed at Cold Harbor, VA on 23 June 1864. After Sherman’s visit destroyed all their food, Catherine, children, and her mother use an ox and cart and walk back to Jefferson Co, FL. I’m trying to find out who Asa’s parents were. I noticed on your website a photo of a class with a Jim Sheppard. Asa and Catherine named their oldest child, my great-grandfather, James Everitt Shepherd. I’m wondering if there’s a connection there. I’m stuck. Thanks for any help. AnnLee

Darlene,
Thank you for all of your hard work. I know how rewarding it must be for you. I hope lots of people will contribute their own personal histories. Mine lies in North Carolina (mostly). Keep up the good work. Thank you, again. Martha

You have given me a lot of information. I teach Georgia History at Wrens Middle School and was looking for local resources to bring GA History to life. Thank you and I will be visiting the website again and hopefully get to meet you one day.
