Hi
Was a member in the mid 70s ! Decided out of curiosity to check and see if you were still going and was pleased to find your web site . I still remember the Sunday clubruns I wasnt averse to a sprint up the Black Rock .... we always seemed to come back that way !! ( these days , couldnt do a sprint DOWN it !! ) I was also a regular on the Thursday 10 mile time trial which in them days used to start in Pentwynmawr and finish just short of Crumlin lights ( think my PB was around 24 mins ) . Joined the RAF straight from school and was away for quite a few years , lost contact with everybody .
Nice to see your still going strong .

Talbot sent me the folowing by e/mail.
Hi Gordon,
As I mentioned on the phone Paul Hale’s mother passed away recently and from what I can gather it was unexpected.
I spoke to Paul a day or two ago and he was understandably upset. His mother’s funeral will be at St. Peters Church in Blaina, on the main street at 10am on Thursday 26th August. If you could let others know I think it would be a comfort to Paul if there were club mates there from the old Wheelers.

| YES Tony Jones, I remeber the incident to which you refer. i carried a spoke key in my tool kit, and was able to use the little expertise I had to straighten a few wheels by standing on the rims at the edge of a pavement, and then trueing them when they were back on the bikes. Not wonderful, but it meant we could then carry on with the clubrun. Good days, before the motor vehicle took over the roads completely. Lots of youngsters joining the club in those days, There was only one or two vets on the books. If only we could get members so easily now. We desperately need new members. So if there is anyone who reads this and would like to be part of our club, please make contact. You will be made very welcome. Best Wishes, from Gordon |

Hi Guys,
As you probably know I am the event organiser for this years Junior Tour of Wales - which has a field of the 100 top juniors in the country, including riders who will be representing Wales at the Commonwealth Games.
Yes, you’ve guessed it I’m looking for some volunteers to help.
I could do with someone to shout out the numbers for Gordon and Gareth on Saturday morning at the time trial.
I could also do with someone to phone back the times from the finish line to the H.Q. I can either supply a phone for the purpose or pay you for the use of your own.
I would also welcome volunteers to push off at the T.T. and with the marshaling over the weekend. Any volunteers???

I was a member 1953-55 I have many happy memories of abertillery wheelers club runs with brian ward gordon
john richards and many more the first time I went out
on a club run going down dowlais I was in front (WE USED TO RIDE IN PAIRS)It started to rain I came off and as I was sliding across the road all the other riders came off I
could hear the swear words as they hit the road I dontthink they liked me at that moment in time People from the houses came out brought tea Roy puddy was trying to straighten his forks Pepper phillip was not friendly and Gordon was looking at me with one of his looks BUT brave as they are I was allowed to join the club
PS I had a new bike (2and6aweek)from George Herberts
If anyone remembers this I think Dylis was there

Hi my Mam and Dad Ron & Jean Parsons were members of Abertillery Wheelers for many, many years and as a child I went to many of the meetings along with my sister Jane and brother Matthew even went on the club runs on a Sunday but unlike my brother and sister seemed to have a phobia of going down hills lol, so Dad then took me on his tandum to gain confidence. Our annual holidays were spent at Buith Wells showground for the cycling weekend many good memories.
Ron and Jean are celebrating their 60th Diamond Wedding Anniversary and we have organized a surprise party for them on the 26th March 2010 at the Six Bells Workmans club at 7.30pm, we are trying to contact people who knows and were cycling friends of my Mam and Dad to invite them. Gerhard told me about the website so thought it might be a way of finding out how I can contact old members. I know quite a few have sadly past away over the years but if anyone can help me I would really appreciate it.
My email address is
And thank you for your time.
Sarah Grail ne Parsons.
