Being with Alicia helped mellow out Ben a little, but he always felt insecure in the relationships. Sometimes, he thought Alicia was only with him out of pity. Othertimes, he thought she’d stop loving him, should he lose his powers permanently. There were times where he wanted Alicia to regain her sight, others where he thought she’d leave if she could see him. (Apparently he thought Alicia didn’t really know what he looked like, despite her touching him and making realistic scupltures of him.) Ben developed a mindblock, which sabotaged the cure attempts. Eventually, he decided to break up with his gf, believing she was put into danger too much. Before doing that though, Ben (along with his male teammates and a bunch of other superheroes and supervillians) participated in the first Secret Wars. While there, he didn’t think he’d see Alicia again, so the mindblock faded. When everyone else went home, Ben stayed behind on battle world. He wanted to explore being able to change back and forth. An evil Ben appeared, representing Ben’s humanity. When that Ben got killed, the FFer believed he’d be stuck being orange-and-rocky forever. When he finally came home, Alicia was in a relationship with Johnny. (Later retconned to a Skrull impersonating Alicia during Secret Wars, then having to change strategies a bit when Ben didn’t return with the others.) EVen though Ben WANTED to break up with Alicia anyway, he hated this development! Even after he learned of the Skrull impersonation, he still didn’t feel comfortable around the real Alicia. He’d see her, and think of her as Johnny’s wife.)
Claremont did a story, in which Alicia had moved to Florida, and wrote Ben a letter. The letter asked him to visit, which he did. Unknown to him though, the Puppet Master was controlling the whole town, and Ben! Once everything was settled and stuff, Ben admitted that he no longer loved Alicia. However, he still wanted to be friends with her.
When Dan Slott wrote The Thing vol. 2, he brought Ben and Alicia back together. She was in a relationship with Arlo, which Ben didn’t take very well. DD learned Alicia still loved Ben, despite her telling him she didn’t. At the end of the 8 issue series (It should’ve lasted longer!), Ben had a special Bar Mitzvah Cermony. (I guess there’s a Jewish Custom where a new life starts after 70, so an 83 year old man could have a Bar Mitzvah, as if he were really 13.) A month before this, two people (a pawn store owner and a Rabbi) approached Ben with their idea. The next month would celebrate 13 years of Ben having HIS second life, as a member of the FF. (Marvel Time likes to have origins and subsequent stories take place in about a 10 year time frame, even though the books have been around for longer than that. Also, I never considered that a physical mutation by cosmic rays, followed by the creation of a superhero moniker, could count as a second life for Ben Grimm.) For the ceremony, Ben read Job. He then realized that his life wasn’t cursed! Didn’t see that coming. Yeah, Ben actually fully embraced what happened to him in space, and here I thought he’d always dislike his powers. Slott implied Ben and Alicia were a couple again, though he didn’t entirely wrap up things between Alicia and Arlo. Despite Slott’s book being part of FF continuity, FF writers have ignored his stuff. The curent FF writer, Millar, has Ben paired with a teacher named Debbie. Of all names, why’s she called that?! I think of the ex-fiance from the movie, bleh! I don’t know what Alicia’s been up to lately, because I haven’t seen her in FF in a long time. (Fantastic Four used to be my favorite comicbook, but then along came JMS. I didn’t like his stuff very much, and Slott better understood the chracters. His book became my favorite. Now I don’t have any favorite. Still read FF as always, but have yet to love it again. I miss that. |

Alicia’s step-father is known as the Puppet Master. He can sculpt figures of people out of radioactive clay, and control them. One day, he decided to control the Thing, and Alicia met Ben that same day. She tried talking to him, but got no response. However, she could sense goodness and other stuff in him. Puppet Master then dressed Alicia up as Sue, and sent them to the Baxter Building. THe spell didn’t wear off ’til Reed lured Ben into a vat, where he reverted back to human form. He apologized for being a jerk earlier in the day. (Reed had kept the cure a secret from Ben, not wanting to get his best friend’s hopes up. However, Ben assumed Reed hated him.) When Alicia heard Ben’s voice, she knew he was the same guy who visitied her and her step-father. But what’s this? He now feels different, so she’s confused. Right at that moment, Ben switches back. Alicia seems happier, and Ben thinks to himself that this blind girl likes him better as the Thing, instead of a flesh-and-blood man. |

| A book suggestion for you; The Book of Joby. It is an updated Job story that I thought was very well done. It’s a big thick tomb and I had to check it out twice from the library to read it. I don’t read much anymore and have been recommending this book to everyone. |

Yep, that’s the theme from "Here Come the Brides"! The DVD only has the instrumental version though.
I probably gave you infomation overload, when telling you a bunch of FF stuff. I’m sorry Jeff. |

| Either you didn’t read any FF comics where Ben lost his powers, or you did but have zero memory of them. |

| I’m not sure I’d like the book you mentioned, since the events aren’t in chronological order. |
