Good morning! My name is Douglas (TB9375). I am the current Public Relations officer for the Alpine Garrison based out of Salt Lake City, Utah. On behalf of our command staff we would like to extend a formal invitation to one of our largest and most anticipated events of 2011!
The American Freedom Festival (http://www.freedomfestival.org/) has once again invited the 501st Legion to join them in celebrating the birth of our great Nation. We have participated in this event in the past and I have to say it has never been anything less than fantastic! This year, we are opening the invitation to any and all members of the 501st to come experience the greatness for themselves. This three-day celebration spans the Fourth of July weekend and includes a daily balloon launch, photo booth and the largest parade since the Rose Parade!

I am happy to announce that we have successfully negotiated and arranged to have the Vader hot air balloon from Belgium at the 2011 Freedom Festival!
For the parade itself, we’re going to try to have a column of troopers bearing the nation’s 50 state flags, led by a color guard, accompanied by a float, and hopefully including a rifle team w/ MG-34s. Similar to the Rose Parade, we’d love to have a trooper from each state here to carry their particular state’s flag.
This year our photo booth will be raising funds for the Wounded Warrior Project (http://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/), a non-profit organization which benefits wounded veterans of the US Armed Forces and their families. We have worked hand in hand with this charity many times in the past and found them to be legitimate, honorable and more than worthy of our support. Their patriotic mission makes them a perfect fit for this event.
The Alpine Garrison has a hospitality committee assigned to assist with any troopers coming from out of state with travel plans, transportation, hotel accommodations, sight-seeing, and any other questions you may have.
