18. Wayne Graziano - 2008-02-03 22:37:02
My name is Wayne Graziano OF Aurora Colorado. I just found the site through Dennis Cutter. My dad trained at camp hale and i heard stories about it and all his war experience throughout my childhood in New Jersey. I think I ended up living in the Denver area since 86 due to my dad’s connection with hale. I took him there in 88 to visit and what a day that was. I WILL NEVER FORGET IT. I am greatful to all who served and thier families. Truly the greatest generation. They are all heros.

My grandfather served in this battalion. I have many pictures from Colorado, France, Italy and Germany. Some pictures are labeled with other’s names. Many pics are with Pizzutti, Margolis, Cogan, Sewman, Schappa, joe Callari, Thom Manga. Does anybody know what the 4th sec. means?

16. Robert Oliva - 2007-12-02 19:35:47
May dad James Oliva was with the 602nd Field Artillery mule pack stationed at Camp Carson, Colorado in 1943 He tells me that they were later reorganized with the 601st, 604th and 605th as the 607th, 608th, 609th FA Bns. He then became a member of the 71st Division when it was activated on July 15th 1943 at Camp Carson. In June 1944, the division was reorganized as a mechanized triangular infantry division with 15,700 personnel. Infantry regiments increased from 2,075 to 3,350 and the three artillery battalions swapped their 75mm howitzers for the larger 105mm howitzers and picked up the 564th FA Bn that my dad was assigned to, which had 155mm guns. This conversion took place in Fort Benning, Georgia.
My dad also talks about the pin he had with the mule when he was with the 602nd and wishes he still had it.

I was checking to see if there was a write up on the 602nd last reunion in St Louis, Missoui. My father, John O. McLeod was with this unit. We have not been able to attend the last two reunions and was wondering who has been attending and how many are still alive. I love your website. I go to it from time to time to see what’s new. Thanks. Keep up the good work.

12. Gregory Hartman - 2007-03-27 18:52:13
My father, Kenneth Hartman, was with the 10th in WWII. I do not know if he was 602nd FA or another battalion. He was a muleskinner, Spc.5. I remember him telling about the night climb on Riva Ridge, which he made with the infantry, and am trying to find out more of his service record. His service prompted me to be AD USAF years ago, and now am a Reserve Soldier, CPT/MS/USAR. Great website!
