| Hi All, Great to find a website that has so much information about my family name. My father was Harold Edward Vousden and he was an officer in the RAF. He was stationed in Malta during the War and brought back a son, who is now an optician in Bath, B A Vousden, my half-brother. My father had other children from his first marriage that I’ve never met. Both my mother and father are on my birth certificate, but I don’t think they ever married. I didn’t meet my father until I was 17, way back in 1978. My father’s letters often talk of a family in Saltford. Both my parents died in 1986, and I lost contact with my half-brother soon after that. I now have two sons of my own and would like them to know more about their maternal grandfather’s side of the family. |

| Hullo Nigel. WE have contacted one another already. Just a note, my mother’s uncle was called William Vousden and he emigrated to Canada, but, as has often been said, there are not a few Vousdens! It seems that Karen (the cancer expert) is world famous! |

Hi Nigel,
Just to let you know I have visited this site and think it’s great.
I note that there are some Canadian Vousdens. My Great Aunt Margaret (Maggy) emigrated to Canada and married a Peter McDonald They lived in Manitoba. Her parents were William Vousden and Isabella (Rooks) who were born 1840 and 1856 respectively in Kent and Cornwall.
Keep up the good work. |

| Hi Nigel, interesting stuff I live in Kent but understand my Vousden ancestory traces back to the west country indeed I believe there is a Vousdens optician in Bath. My understanding of the name is it comes from the Saxon for Firs Hill. I have no proof though... |

| Hi Nigel, I just wanted to say thanks for setting up this website, I’ve always been curious of the background of my name and had always been told it was of flemish origins, but was interested to read your ideas on the name actually originating in biddenden having been bought up in kent and still having so many family ties to that area. |

Hi Nigel I have a few Vousdens on censuses with my husbands ancestors who were farmers in Tonbridge. To my surprise when i accessed the site there was the actual house that i was born in ’154 Clapham Manor street’ in 1944 mentioned!!
What a coincidence !
happy to share what I have with any researchers
regards
Shirley

Nigel
Came across your web site purely by accident.
What a very impressive site you may have convinced me I should do something about looking into my own ancestry
Well done |
