I am proud to say that my great grand-dady Lived in Avard and was buried at the I.O.O.F. cemitary at Avard in July of 1910.
I went there a little over a month ago and for me it was very interesting but for most people it could be a very lonely place. I drove around the old town 3 times before I was able to find anybody to talk to and it was a good thing I knew some spanish because I only found a Mexican working at the grain elevator and he didnt Know there was a cemitary in Avard

I am greatly enjoying your website—both photos of Alva and stories about it. Both of my paternal g-grandfathers (Robert Marion Watson and Franklin C. “Pete” Langley) and one gg-grandfather (John Lord, the father of Pete Langley’s wife) settled there after making the run. All lived in Kansas immediately prior to the run. Watson was a farmer NW of town, originally from Ohio. Langley was a farmer, a US Deputy Marshal along with his friend, Snoddy, and also managed at one time what was later called the Gunn Hotel (Runnymeade). I can trace him back to Illinois. John Lord was at one time a blacksmith and he came originally from New Hampshire. His daughter, Pete’s wife, was Charlotte Elizabeth Lord Langley.

Does anyone know anything about the Allen Family there in Ardmore? Been searching for a long time. Any help could be great!

I was curious as to why my middle name was, "Alva", and began searching regions known to have possibly been Indian encampment areas in the 1830’s.......I am 66 years old and want to pass on to my grand-children where they came from.

Until we meet again, thanks Emmett Alva Walker

Dear Linda,
I have, in the past, been receiving your NW Okie material. I have lost that connection. Would you, please, reenter my subscription so that I can continue reading your blog. I, too, was a Northwestern Okie hailing from Driftwood. That is why I enjoy your blog so much. Thank you,
Dean

Howdy Linda,
I do enjoy your e-zine. I am surprised at myself because I seem to feel I have missed something if I don’t get the newsletter on Sunday. I like the updates about NWOSU happenings. The historical items are welcome to this amateur historian. Keep up the good works. Tomorrow, 22 Sep 08, at 1023 am the sun will cross the equator on its trip south. Thus we will experience the Autumnal Equinox. Whew!
Jim
