Kent and Brent, six packs in hand, ambled down the path to the Farm, where Pete Zils was arranging scrape wood for a fire for later. Funky Bunch was waxing his board. KGB was packing a pipe to pass around. Charley had a lot of respect for Pete and Kevin. The Dirt Farm was less a surf club than a family; a clan in the Surf Tribe. A bunch of guys that like to surf, drink beer and barbeque together. Charley was a Farmer , but he didn’t want to get sidetracked talking story with the crew.
He was a man on a mission
He could spend the night on Fiji’s couch, he was always generous that way, but Fiji had a lot of friends. Surf buddies, poker pals, and ex-girlfriends were always showing up at all hours of the night to party. Not to mention friends from Southern Cal were always dropping in unannounced.
He could use Fiji couch but that doesn’t mean he would get any rest. And Ernie would be pissed if he didn’t stay at his place, but Ernie’s sofa was five foot wide and Charley was six two. The math didn’t compute.
