As a German learner of Irish, I have found out about Ulster Scots, too. Your site is very interesting!
In talks with Irish people, I have heard the statement that the Unionist community had come back on Ulster Scots in order to belittle the amount of money to forward Irish in Northern Ireland. I cannot believe this!
The Scots community has the same right to forward their traditional language as the Irish community has the right to forward Irish.
However, Ulster Scots has only traditional roots in certain parts of Ulster whereas Irish has roots all over Ireland. Therefore I would call Scots a language of Scotland and Ulster. In other parts of Ireland, it has no tradition.
Furthermore, one should not exaggerate and call Ulster Scots what it really is; A dialect of Scots. Artificial language dividing is of little use. The Scots activists of Ulster and Scotland should merge together their powers in order to foster the Scots language.
In Ulster, both Irish and Ulster Scots ought to be taught at school with one of both being mandatory. |

| Interesting site. I hope that someday we can unite the island because we would all be the stronger for it. I hope that people will oneday make whatever compromises need to be made by both sides to make it happen but I fear that the politicians will slow it because turkeys don’t vote for christmas and it doesn’t seem to be on the agenda at all nowadays. |

Great website, Ulster scots is a credible language and we should all do our best to see that it is well represented in the United Ireland.

You say;
""If we are to share the island as a united nation sometime in the future as the Irish, and some Scots desire, equality of cultures and languages should be paramount."
Personally though, I’m not convinced that creating divisions, can actually help bring people together!
For me, the Ulster Scots Dialect, for want of a better, more inclusive, description is used by most of the country folk of Co Antrim & parts of Co Down. Unfortunately, the way it is being packaged, it is alienating many of those folk, who may well have no links, nor any desire to be associated, with Scots Culture. |

| hi, great website, I couldnt agree with the sentiment more. i’ve enjoyed learning about their culture and language and we must learn about each others culture and language if were to thrive in a united ireland. it should be used on signs in the north olong with english and Irish in a united ireland. some say thats long winded but it works in many multi-lingual countries |

I hope this site will somehow help to heal the divide by letting us share in our common cultures, of Anglo, Scot and Gael.
Through this I hope that nationalists will not see Ulster Scots as just a unionist language, but a language of our island, reguardless of political boundaries, past, present or future... |
