Hi - We were at a wedding at the Derwent Manor Hotel and having always wanted to see where my great grandparents lived and died we went to find their grave at Ushaw Moor. They lived on Bannerman Terrace and it was quite moving to visit your community...

Thanks for the website!

A great website. Thanks to so many for sharing your memories. My father-in-law, Tom Ware, was born in Hareholm Chapel in 1912 & later lived in Ushaw Moor, 9 Dale & 19 Ushaw. His family moved to Canada in 1927. Tom passed away in 2004. I would have loved to share this site with him.

Congratulations on your excellent website. An alumnus of Ushaw Moor Mixed Infants, I well remember Mr Trotter and the two Misses Bates; the reputedly haunted house with a stuffed gorilla in its hall; the doctor’s surgery in Arthur Street which had a huge model tractor to beguile childish attention; the cinema in ?Station Road, where my mother took me to see ’Pinnochio’; climbing the ’magic steps’ up the hillside, on a Sunday’s walk. I never forgave Lord Robens, for sending us to Nottinghamshire!
