Just been on your site, wow how your t4 has evolved. Wish i had the patience, know how etc to do something like this.
T5 stuff into a T4 is the best way, I still think T4s are the better of the two! See you soon

Hi there, sorry for the slow reply - so answers to your questions then - yes and no basically, yes you do have to remove them if you have the headrest/parcel shelf in place as the short wheel base T4 is just ntot quite long enough, but if you don’t have the parcel shelf in place, then the R&R bed moves back and the seats act as more of the leg room.
Weight is what you get used to - will it all in there, if I am cruising or towing on a run I am still regularly getting high 30’s and even breaking 40mpg so its not too bad - you can of course get that right down if your constant start stopping (lot of momentum to start and stop)
Cost wise - Now the T5 has been on the scene for a while, there are a few more floating about, but still not overly a cheap option - expect the lot for around £2k I should think, but you would almost certainly get a better deal off German e-bay, and go on a road trip.
Hope this helps

| like many, i have been admiring you T5 interior in T4 van. Exactly what i want to do, for exactly the same reasons. Beyond what you have already said on the matter,a couple more questions; do you have to remove the two single seats to make room for the bed to be laid out? (or have you just done that in the pictures to give yourself some room to move about?) When you say it weighs a ton, as it affected the performance - specifically the economy? when you say it costs a lot - can you give me a ball park. Sorry to inundate you with questions - but there aren’t many out there who have done what you have done. thanks |

Hi Guys
Sorry for the slow reply, been very busy running the T4Froum recently.
Anyway – Fitting the T5 seats and rails in the T4.
Couple of factors you must take on board, although it’s a very good mod and works very well, you have to take into account the following factors, Its not cheap, easy or a quick solution – not to mention weighing a ton (that’s not much of an exaggeration by the way)
Firstly then, the corrugations in the floor of a T4 run the same directions as the rails – in an ideal work the T5 rails would sit on top of all the T4 corrugations making it easy to drill through – take it from me, you will be lucky if one rail does this LOL
If your fitting this to a Short Wheel Base, then its really tight to the wheel arches (approx 1mm each side) so this dictates where the rails sit.
You will need to fabricate plates to strengthen up the chassis and make your own rail (to sit behind the front one) this is because all the strength of the seatbelts have to go through the floor – not something to skimp on.
Keeping the rails parallel is another tricky one – they need to be dead square else the triple seat (R&R) will not run freely.
I found raising the floor to meet the rails a better option than cutting rails into the floor, this also gives a smooth surface for the final covering.
As for sourcing all the bits, I would advise German E-Bay and take a weekend off to go get them, it will cost you a fortune of you buy them separately and there are many dozens of parts needed to make it all work properly.
I think this about covers it all – if you have any further queries, then please drop me a line – it is all possible as I have proved it can be done – best of luck

| Hi James. Very similar to the last posting, I have spent some time reviewing the work that you have done to your van and I am interested in doing something similar. I will be buying a SWB T5 window van, and want to put seats in the back for my two children and allow us to use it as a family when we go away. I too am interested in the single seats/table/rails configuration that you have used (or the rock ’n’ roll bed as an alternative. Any thoughts or advice would be very welcome. Thanks, Nick |

Hi there,
Was interested to read about the work you have done on your van. I am looking for a van for the same reasons. I would be interested to know more about how you converted the interior with rails etc. Looks like it was made to fit. Is this a kit you can get?
Would be keen to find out more.
Regards,
Ben
