Just wanted to say I have made contact with the family of Israel B. Harris, son of Woodbury and Elizabeth Lawrence Harris. Also have alot of history about Woodbury and Elizabeth Lawrence Harris as well as the Melvin Hopkins family. Hope to attend the September 2009 Society meeting and will share the photographs sent to me by the family.

My 9 yo son and I are interested in old houses - the architecture, the stories... We are excited to learn about the upcoming open houses in Sept, and will certainly attend!
I only logged on to find more information, yet I have found myself sitting here for 2 hours reading the minutes of old historical society meetings!
Tomorrow I will make a call to join the Historical Society.

Today I had the opportunity to visit Johnston and immerse myself in its history through several of its historical sites. What a marvelous experience. Just a great Town with a rich history.

I grew up in Johnston in the Graniteville area, going to Graniteville school on the way home we used to stop in at the Old house next to the fire station , the Old Farnum Angell house, nobody was living there then but the house was left open and all the furniture and everything to live on was still in there, the item in there that I will never forget was the old suit of armour that stood against a wall, it was a full suit including helmet and face peices arms legs it was incredible slowly over the years that the house was empty people went there and over a period of time stole all the antiques that were there, I remember the old lady that was living there she rode around Graniteville asking for and selling rags from her horse pulled wagon, we called her the rag lady

Hello I was born and raised in Johnston. I have recently retired and living in Cranston. I was born in the old Wilder farmhouse which I believe they took apart and rebuilt it in Newport. The house is on the site of the insurance building today located on Central Ave. My grandfather was a Johnston policeman in the early 1930’s. I have an old picture of him in uniform. I have been working on my family tree and hope to touch base with you in the near future. I am retired now so I hope to see you soon.

Great website! We live in the Thomas Hughes house and are always interested in finding info about Hughesdale or our house. The more we learn about the history of our house, the more we love it! ;-)

Keep up the good work!

Nice Website. Michelle Donahue where are you? I am researching Isreal B Harris’ family, as his sister, Susan D. Harris Hopkins was my great great grandmother. I have bookmarked this page, as I hope you will check back in.

I’m fascinated to see how the family name has marked many towns and geographical features around the world.

What a great website! I’m a history fan and glad to know that my town has such wonderful caretakers for local history. Although I’m only a junior in high school, I am an Anerican history enthusiast and found your website extremely interesting and informative! Hope to join as a member soon. Thanks so much.
