David,
First of all, thanks for the kind words on the Youtube vid. It’s not my best effort but after about 10 takes I finally had to call it quits, lol! I believe the one and only reason I settled on the Uniden was that the rep at Arcsoft assured me I could get a screen capture of the Uniden’s virtual display with Windows Media Encoder. That was very important to me as that’s the app I use to stream the vid. If that’s not a big deal to you, then yes, go for the GRE, it’s an excellent radio too and with the right software, I imagine Encoder could probably grab it’s display also. I just wasn’t sure and wanted to know that whatever radio I bought would feed my page. |

| Hi Dale; I enjoyed the You Tube video of your shack. I’m on the fence between choosing a Uniden scanner or a GRE radio. Could you please give me briefly your reasons for using the Uniden ( That’s the one I’m leaning towards) |

| Wanted to tell everyone a story.. the PC I thought was finally ready for the junk pile has been resurrected. As a last ditch effort I simply reinstalled the recovery CD that came with the box 3 years ago. True, I had a gazillion Windows XP updates to download and install thru XP service pack 3 but once done, the box performs almost as new. On occasion at boot up I still get a "blue screen" that’s related to some Linksys router problem but usually I reboot again and all is well. All the other junk apps have been removed so it just runs Windows Media Encoder and the scanner software used to pull the audio/video from the BCD996t. I’ve noticed I need to reboot the box about every two weeks to keep the feed running smoothly. I guess some background processes fail, sockets fail, whatever and reboot seems to cure all ills. Can’t complain with what I’m getting using a budget Emachine with a 64 bit Athlon processor, a wireless card into my home network. Have fun listening and watching.. ’73 and take care, KC0NZM |

Hi Alex,
Yes, the PC I use to host the feed has finally had it’s day I think. I’m able to still feed the audio portion to RadioReference/Scanamerica but the machine keeps giving errors when I try to to transmit the video/audio feed with Windows Media Encoder. Something to do with the fact that the CPU can’t keep up with processing the stream. I suspect it’s just worn out from running 3 years 24/7.
Thanks for your support and again, you can still hear the audio at radioreference.com.
