Maddie,
I assume you’re in the process of showing your Grandmother Wallwork around heaven. You two have a great time, but tell Grandma that when she see’s me coming, she’s to put you down and go play elsewhere for awhile. I love you and miss you every minute of my life. Love, your poppa

My 11 year old daughter Mackenzie had her 4th open heart surgery recently. It is faith that gets us through the pain that we must endure as we watch our little one fight for her life. It is because God has blessed us with people like you that we are given hope for her future. Your continued involvement with blood drives etc, increases Mackenzie’s chances of winning her battle with heart disease. I will remember Madeline when our child has her next surgery and be sure to give thanks to God for her legacy.

It is great how you become connected to people whom you never meant but yet have such a impact on you. I found your site after trying to learn more about the ECMO machine. I have a friend who 4 year old son is fighting pneumonia, rsv, mrsa, and ALL ( Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia). He has been placed on the ECMO machine for over a month now and I was looking to find information on it and come across your story. The greatest part is that tomorrow is Madeline’s birthday and what an honor it was to me to read her story. Who would have thought that her story would touch someone’s heart in Michigan who she never meant the day before her 6th birthday. GOD IS GOOD! Thank you for sharing her with the world. You are a true inspiration! Reading your post truly has opened my eyes to some of the feeling that my friends are dealing with and I am forever grateful for that. Thanks you for opening my own eyes on all the blessings I have and for making me be a better wife and mother for it! Madeline my wish for you is that you dance and dance tomorrow on your birthday and I’m going to pray that you will watch over our special Vaughn because you know what he is going through and to be our little angel to watching over him. After reading your story it makes my heart happier knowing there are angels like you watching over other children who are hurting. God be with you and your family. May your memory live on forever and your story continue to help others! God Bless!

Hi, Lesters. January is a month when I think of you all, each year. There are still tears, both bitter and sweet, when I think of sweet Maddie. Just wanted you to know you are continually lifted up. Wishing you God’s greatest blessings in 2010. De in LV.

Dear Lester Family,

I learned of your Maddie’s blog and began reading it on the 2nd anniversary of her passing. I didn’t even know what day she passed until I got to the end and saw. Her story has tremendously impacted our lives. I also have a daughter with HLHS. Ruby is 19months and is currently on day 25 of being on ECMO after coding on 12/28 because of a terrible respiratory virus which put her heart into stress. Reading about Maddie just strengthens me everytime. She was an amazing fighter and continues to live in spirit. God gave your little angel only half of a heart and kept the other, because hers was just too big. She had too much love and joy in her, and now I can only imagine how much happier she is now that she has her whole heart back again. I feel like I have known you for so long already, and I want to say that you are loved so very much. Thank you for sharing Maddie’s testimony with the world. May God continue to bless you and fill you with peace.

Love,
Dianette Berrios (mom to Ruby HLHS, on ECMO)
