One trick to keep the record from wobbling is to wrap tape around the pencil, lots of tape, so that the record sits on a nice little tape "platform" on the pencil. Or use a thicker pencil -- you want one that fits snugly in the hole in the record. It’s definitely tricky to make it turn smoothly though.

omg that phonograph experiment was so fun...me and my grandpa did it together is their another thing to use as a turntable. The pencil wobbles and makes it hard to here... thnx
